GENERAL POLICY
Licensing is the process by which the determination is made regarding who may represent himself or herself as a psychologist, use the title psychologist or offer services under the descriptive term "psychological", or any derivative thereof (Article 10(2), The College of Psychologists Act, 1980).
In order to issue a license the Registration Committee must ascertain that a person is qualified to engage in the practice of psychology. The practice of psychology shall be generally understood to mean the rendering of psychological services to the public.
Guidelines adopted by the College of Psychologists of New Brunswick shall be used by the Registration Committee in evaluating the credentials of applicants for licensing. These guidelines are intended to provide information to prospective candidates about the process of, and current standards for, licensing of psychologists in New Brunswick. While the guidelines are designated to have general applicability across the range of areas of psychological practice, the Registration Committee recognizes the need for flexibility in interpretation of the guidelines with respect to individual cases.

The EPPP is available in both official languages and the cost is determined by PES
(Professional Examination Service) which is the agency responsible for the EPPP.
While you must notify the Registrar of your intention to write the EPPP as stated above in the By-Law, we wish to inform you that PES (Professional Examination Service) is responsible for all organizational aspects and for the administration of the EPPP.
CPNB is therefore no longer involved with the administration of the EPPP other than receiving a notification from PES to verify the credentials and eligibility of candidates and provide you with the results of the examination as submitted by PES.
As for the necessary information to proceed referred to in By-Law (1) (d) above, please consider the following as the information that the Registrar can provide you:
- consult the website: www.asppb.net/files/public/IFC.pdf for information on the EPPP, PES or ASPPB.
- the computerized administration of the EPPP is available at all authorized Prometric Testing Centers. The nearest Prometric Centers for New Brunswick candidates are in Halifax, Montreal and Maine (USA).
- you may call 1-800-457-3926 or visit www.asppb.net/Student to register and to get more information.
- you may also wish to consult the College website at : www.cpnb.ca
